Nine hawker centres and markets in Bedok are shutting for scheduled spring cleaning this month, including Bedok Interchange Hawker Centre from 7 to 8 September 2026. If you usually eat at Inspirasi, Pin Xiang, or Blk 216 before work, check the dates before you walk over. The closures are short, but they land in the September school holidays, when more families are eating out east.
AsiaOne, citing the National Environment Agency, listed 21 centres islandwide closing between 7 and 13 September 2026. Bedok Food Centre at 1 Bedok Road, Bedok North Street 3 Blk 538, and Bedok Interchange Hawker Centre at 208B New Upper Changi Road are on that first wave. NEA says the wash-downs are routine so the centres stay hygienic. SethLui's September round-up, republished on Yahoo Life Singapore, extends the picture through the rest of the month and into early October.
The Bedok dates, in order
Treat these as planning dates, not a reason to skip hawker food for four weeks. Most sites close one or two days. Two stay shut longer, into the first weekend of October.
- 7 September 2026: Bedok Food Centre (1 Bedok Road) and Bedok 538 Market & Food Centre (538 Bedok North Street 3).
- 7 to 8 September 2026: Bedok Interchange Hawker Centre (208B New Upper Changi Road), next to Bedok MRT and Bedok Mall.
- 14 September 2026: The Marketplace @ 58 (58 New Upper Changi Road).
- 14 to 15 September 2026: Blk 216 Bedok Food Centre & Market (216 Bedok North Street 1).
- 21 September 2026: Pasar 16 @ Bedok (16 Bedok South Road) and Kaki Bukit 511 Market & Food Centre (511 Bedok North Street 3).
- 28 September to 2 October 2026: 85 Fengshan Centre (85 Bedok North Street 4) and Bedok Reservoir Food Centre (630 Bedok Reservoir Road).
AsiaOne and SethLui agree on the 7 to 8 September Interchange closure. For the later dates, SethLui is the fuller neighbourhood list. NEA's public closure table on its hawker-management page is JS-driven and did not render a static list when fetched, so cross-check the official page closer to each date if your usual stall sits in an HDB-managed centre.
What you actually miss at the Interchange
Bedok Interchange is the one that hits commuters. It sits above the bus interchange, a short walk from Bedok MRT Exit C into Bedok Mall. Eatbook's stall guide still points people to Inspirasi for mee rebus and soto ayam at about $3, Hock Hai (Hong Lim) Curry Chicken Noodle for curry bee hoon mee, Ming Hui Nasi Lemak from $2.50, and Pin Xiang Hainanese Chicken Rice from $3.80. Those stalls will be dark on 7 and 8 September. They should be back on 9 September unless a stallholder takes an extra rest day, which happens after a deep clean.
If you only eat at the Interchange on weekdays after 7pm, the 7 to 8 September window is the one that matters. Sunday 6 September is still open. Tuesday 8 September is not.
Blk 216, Fengshan 85, and the longer shutdowns
Blk 216 on Bedok North Street 1 closes 14 to 15 September. Eatbook's review of Madam Chua 133 Mien Fen Guo there still lists handmade ban mian and yu mian from $2.50, with the stall opening from 5am. Plan breakfast elsewhere that Monday and Tuesday. The centre reopened in May 2026 after a separate deep clean tied to public-health screening, so this September wash is the regular calendar, not another emergency shutdown.
The two closures that stretch into October are 85 Fengshan Centre and Bedok Reservoir Food Centre, both 28 September to 2 October. Fengshan is where the Bedok 85 bak chor mee rivalry lives. If you want soup BCM before the five-day gap, go in the week of 21 September. Kaki Bukit 511 is only down on 21 September, so it can cover some of the Fengshan crowd the following week, with the usual caveat that 511 has its own stalls and queues.
Where to eat instead, without leaving Bedok
Bedok Mall stays open. The mall has no food court, which is why the Interchange next door does so much lunch trade. Use the mall for sit-down meals those two days, then go back to the hawker centre once the floors dry. East Coast Lagoon Food Village is not on the September cleaning list published by SethLui. Simpang Bedok coffee shops along Bedok Road are a fallback if you live south of the MRT.
Do not assume a centre is open because the wet market side looks busy from the road. Cooked-food and market sections sometimes reopen on different clocks after a wash. If a stall's shutter is down on the morning after a listed date, it is usually the stallholder, not NEA, taking an extra day.
