Bedok Jetty stays open as Long Island works start west of the pier from end-2026

From end-2026, Long Island preparatory works start in the water west of Bedok Jetty, 勿洛码头. The first phase covers about 570 hectares. The jetty itself stays open for fishing. Near-shore swimming and the park paths stay open. The second phase, east of the jetty, waits until after the 2029 SEA Games.

Bedok's coast on this site is East Coast Park Areas E to G and this pier, not the whole park. Phase 1 sits west of the jetty, toward Marina Barrage. That is someone else's Saturday. Ours starts at the green rail and runs east toward Tanah Merah.

The jetty is the line

URA and HDB said this on 30 June 2026. The first phase is roughly 7 km east to west and up to 1 km north to south. Work stays at least 130 m off the sand. Silt screens or floating barriers will mark the edge. Crews will clear seabed obstructions, then build temporary sand bunds and fill sand. That is not the final island. Agencies keep repeating that the work zone is not the future shoreline.

8world put the first phase at about three years. Phase 2, about 155 hectares, is the water east of the jetty, toward Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal. Sport Singapore says sea sports can keep using that eastern water until at least 2029. PAssion Wave @ East Coast, on that eastern side, told 联合早报 its sessions continue. That outlet is not PAssion Wave @ Bedok Reservoir at 911 Bedok Reservoir Road. The reservoir kayaks are a different booking.

Fishing stays. The catch may not.

URA's environmental study found only slight, localised changes to currents and waves near the jetty. Near-shore swimming along the whole East Coast stretch can continue. Fishing from the pier and the beach can continue. HDB still expects fish to move, which is a polite way of saying some weekends will be quieter on the line.

联合早报 walked the jetty on 30 June. Office worker Chen Qiaowen, 64, fishes here one or two days a month. He said he understands why Long Island is coming and still thinks noise and silt will scare fish off for years. Student Lin Jiayuan, 24, pointed at the species board by the path and noted the obvious thing the renderings skip. The water under the pier is salt. The future reservoir behind a barrage would not be.

Anglers who already keep lists at this pier formed the Ichthyological Society of Singapore in July 2026 because the official study did not match what they pull here. iNaturalist has around 200 species in the jetty's vicinity. NParks is talking to SIT and NUS about a three-year fish study along reclaimed shores, including this park. The study has no public start date. End-2026 is close.

What is already fenced, and what is not

Land-based soil investigation is already in the park, from September 2026 into the first quarter of 2027. URA last updated that page on 11 September 2026. A few rigs sit inside hoarded patches. This is not the sand-bund work. Keep clear of the boards and keep walking. NParks also lists toilet E1 closed for upgrading until 31 October 2026. That toilet is in Area E, on the Bedok side of the park. Other NParks closures this season sit in Areas C and D. Those are west of the jetty. Do not treat them as Bedok's problem.

Kiteboarding takes the hardest hit once Phase 1 starts, because that sport's southwest-monsoon water runs from Bedok Jetty toward Marina. Kayak, sail, and windsurf groups get minor to moderate squeeze in the same western water. Agencies say they will point people east of the jetty, and to Changi, Pasir Ris, Sembawang, and Sentosa. The park itself, 东海岸公园, stays unfenced. You can still book a BBQ pit and ride the path past Area F.

Weekend bus 401 still runs from Bedok Interchange into the park. There is no MRT on the beach. Carpark F2 is the honest lot for the jetty. If you only wanted a supermarket, stay at Bedok Mall.

The next round of public engagement on Long Island is also listed from end-2026. Facts and maps live at go.gov.sg/long-island and on the NParks East Coast Park page. Trust those over a render of a future promenade.
